Great North Run 2013

This was possibly one of the worst weather Great North Runs in its history. Instead of sweltering sun and blistering road we had decidedly cool and overcast weather with bouts of gales and downpours!
Still, not as bad as the raging storm that some had predicted the evening before. And tough conditions didn't put the team off at all. Michael and I came in with another two personal bests while Adrian and Christine followed with very respectable times, all things considered. And everyone enjoyed a soothing massage at the end thanks to those lovely welcoming people in the Marie Curie charity tent (all except me of course, who cried off to an early hot shower instead :-).
The main race on Sunday followed an enjoyable Saturday afternoon in Newcastle/Gateshead watching the Junior Great North Run and Gateshead City Games and a visit to the cafe in the Sage building.
And we met up with some old Great North friends around the race and had our own celebratory dinner and drink in South Shields afterwards. A great weekend!
We have now reached a grand total of £1615 raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care - see http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/classof76. Thanks to all who have donated so generously!
And we're going to keep that funding page up just a little bit longer-for anyone who might still want to give a little to the cause-as Michael (whom we strongly suspect has been bitten by some kind of "running bug") has signed up for *another* half marathon in Belfast next Sunday (22 September). So if you're spectating on that occasion don't forget to give him a big cheer!
