He was a character and as mad as a box of frogs. He was one of those people who we all remembered from our school days. Quite possibly the most brilliant multi talented person I have ever known but not without his troubles.

Definitely a character we could never forget. From an amazing rendition of "Bridge over troubled water" on wee Mick's piano in the wooden huts, to setting off bangers holding them between his teeth in front of the assembly hall main outside entrance. Sad news.

Very sad news to hear but thanks for telling me. I have fond memories of Gruk, from jumping off a roof with an umbrella parachute (landing bottom first), to getting into battles with me on the rugby field. Great guy, one of the best. He was a distant relation too, second cousin or something like that.

Hearing the stories is leaving me feeling a bit responsible for his reputation.

I dared him 50p that he wouldn't light the banger in his mouth and then was "bricking" it when he did it.

Also the umbrella stunt. It was my fishing umbrella. I told him I had jumped off our flat roof at home .... and Gruk being Gruk thought that sounds good ... bring it into school for me to have a go!!

Good memories

Definitely one of our characters, very sad, I expect there will be many more stories to be heard at our reunion.
